The key components in the South Durban Multi-point Plan

1. Assessing community health impact -completing an epidemiological study. (This is being done by the University of Natal.)

2. Setting the So2 standards aligned to World Health Organisation standards - reviewing standards for priority pollutants.

3. Strengthening enforcement by introducing new legislation and developing a local legal framework.

4. Identifying and minimising fugitive emissions.

5. Phasing out the use of dirty fuel by industry in South Durban.

6. Improving air pollution monitoring by establishing an Air Quality Management System and strengthening the inspectorate.
